Hi,

I have a n800 with the latest firmware, OS2007 4.2007.38-2. I tried installing simple launcher (simple-launcher_0.9.5_armel) and camera (camera_2.9-2video_armel) but got a simple "unable to install" error when I try to do so in Application Manager. It doesn't state any reason for not being able to install. I am a Linux newbie and was wondering whether someone could help. Thanks, and here is the log file:

osso-application-installer 4.46, UI version 2
/usr/bin/dpkg-deb -f '/media/mmc2/camera_2.9-2video_armel.deb'
/usr/bin/dpkg --install '/media/mmc2/camera_2.9-2video_armel.deb'
(Reading database ... 12694 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking camera (from .../camera_2.9-2video_armel.deb) ...

dpkg: error processing /media/mmc2/camera_2.9-2video_armel.deb (--install):

/usr/bin/dpkg --purge `/usr/bin/dpkg-deb -f '/media/mmc2/camera_2.9-2video_armel.deb' Package`
dpkg - warning: ignoring request to remove camera which isn't installed.

I think the package has been corrupted. Try downloading it again.

I've tried over and over...

I downloaded the simple launcher 0.9.5 from http://simple-launcher.garage.maemo.org/

and

camera 2.9.2 video from here https://garage.maemo.org/projects/camera/

Are there any other way to install the programs other than through Application Manager? Am I missing some repos?

The repos I have are Maemo Base, Maemo extras, Maemo Hackers, Nokia Catalogue, nokia Catalogue (3rd party software)

Thanks!

I notice that sometimes when you install a package and it gives that error, it shows up as installed but broken. You generally have to uninstall the broken one (by clicking on it in the "Installed" list) and then try again.

Why download? You should just use the repositories instead.
http://www.gronmayer.com/it/
shows that simple-launcher is in
http://repository.maemo.org/extras
bora
free non-free
and camera is in
http://catalogue.tableteer.nokia.com/certified/

Add those repositories if they're missing. Then refresh your application list in the ap. In the application manager you'll find a list of all installable applications, including simple-launcher and camera. Click on them to install.

If you access that first link directly from the tablet the 'click to install' flag will do all of that in one go. The main point though is that it's never necessary to download and install applications that are available in repositories, they're installable just by selecting and clicking right in the application manager application list. No explicit download necessary.

Thanks TA-t3. I was able to get simple-launcher to work. However, the camera program from that repository is not what I wanted. That program doesn't allow for the recording of videos, but 2.9-2video does. How can I look for the repository of that program? Thanks

That same site:
http://www.gronmayer.com/it/
has a search box on the righthand side. Enter the name of the file you are looking for to see if it is in any of the repositories there.

When I received my n800 two months ago I realized applications are a bit split everywhere.
I'm used to searching google/ itt forum but I have to say for new users it is really a pain.
There should be a sticky post about this gronmayer website.
For me, I don't care, it's more for the others..
