Do you have to disable *everything* to use your browser? On mine all I disable is Flash and image animations.

I suppose your definition of usable and mine differ, as do our definitions of everything.

I don't espect a desktop experience either, and I'm rather surprised these devices handle Flash at all.

I'mI'm sticking to os2007, too, while trying to port those
apps I need to the newer os. I *do* use them, as I guess
several other people. Applications are not only an
exercise for developers... :-)
First of all, xournal.

BTW would os2007 work on the n810? :-)

The two things which absolutely must work is e-mail and browser. I use the N800 to check my messages when I'm out of the office and browser to access my web host. Like someone said in another post, if the N800 isn't in my hands it's in my pocket.

I'm sticking with OS2007 for now to see if things improve when the release comes out mid-December. However, I tried to update my Rhapsody recently and now it won't play anything at all. I deleted the program and tried to load it fresh and it doesn't have all the parts to do that. So, I guess it has already moved over to OS2008? Skype I would like to have work on the N800. I hope that all of this will be resolved after the release or an update or two.

My principal uses with the N800 are:
- play music
- watch some videos while commuting (Mplayer does an amazing job)
- use it as japanese dictionary with the JCK support and Gjiten
- review learned vocabulary using Granule
- read some small texts using Evince (the default PDF reader is does not have some options I need)

so, yes, I'm gonna stay with OS2007 for a long time... I do not care If I have to stay years like this, everything works perfect for me

I need japanese input support, Gjiten and Granule ported, until that happens I won't do it. I love my N800 and OS2007 gives me everything I want, and with the upcoming Canola as media center for the N800 do you really think is worth the change? I'm not

I don't need any speed improvement or better mozilla browser, the one I've installed runs perfectly and although youtube plays choppy I never watch any flash video

Im sticking to IT2007. Everything right now just works. My n800 has an uptime of almost a whole month without no errors. I may switch to IT2008 in the future but when its fully stable and all the 2007 apps are ported

I have downloaded the OS2008 beta, but not installed it yet. I planned to install the final OS2008. However, Skype _must_ work or I won't upgrade. And I also hope to be confident that the problems I see with MicroB in OS2007 are gone first: in particular, MicroB on OS2007 apparently uses much more memory for the same pages compared to Opera, with the result that some sites will enage the out-of-memory kill-applications mechamism of the OS, which using Opera on the same sites won't. (In fact I never ran into out-of-memory problems until I started testing MicroB.)

TA-t3, are you using the swap memory option? Use a good memory card and when activated you're allowed to run more apps at the same time, in fact I usually run 4 apps at the same time while browsing and I never had that problem. Sometimes It gets a bit slow specially with this web... it needs to be more polished or offer a much faster version... but the rest is ok.

No, I don't use swap. First, my current internal card is nearly full, and secondly, I've never needed it - except with MicroB, which to me indicates a software problem that shouldn't really be worked around by adding swap space. When using just Opera I have no problems with running two or three windows plus Skype and a couple more applications (between 2 and 5 in total) at the same time. Never used swap space the whole year (well, 11 months) I've had the N800, and never had an out-of-memory problem.. unless I use MicroB. Of course, it depends a bit on the site I access.

Things will be improving. There was a good point made on #maemo about Opera versus MicroB. Opera has been in the embedded space for years (8.5 is nearly 5 years old) and has had a lot of time to mature and develop with that space in mind, Mozilla has not. MicroB is just about the first really serious effort to push the Mozilla browser into mobile space, so it's to be expected that there will be some growing pains (well, shrinking ).

Also, you should really make some room for swap, it's a very useful feature.
