hi all, it started a week ago as my n900 showed me the sim icon whenever i knock the phone with my finger or even settle it on a place.
I sent it to nokia care (not under warranty) and gave it back saying it cant be repaired, then i took out the gsm antenna- the signal became weaker and the network loss is still there.

I want to know if there is another hardware component related to the cellular reception?

one side of the circuit board is the main cpu, memory, etc. Other side is all modem, and it's crashing.

but the problem occurs when you shake the phone (mechanical issue), anyway, i sent it again and they told me they'll send it to the factory.

I have almost the same problem. The GSM signal drops totally every now and then.

It is hard to tell if it requires any shaking or similar. I'm unable to make the signal drop by shaking the device. Could it be software related? Could a reflash help this?

I have similar problem. The phone is on the table and suddenly it loses the cellular network. Little knock to the side and switching back and forth from 2g to 3g helps. I am little worried that they won´t try to fix it although it is under warranty, but replace it with n8 .... hrrrr cannot imagine more worst case.

ask for an n950 as replacement

</OT>

seriously, if knocking causes signal loss, there is probably a broken or bad solder joint somewhere, most likely at the antenna (solder on mechanical parts always give in faster)

im having the same issue with mine and am out of warranty. nokia referred me to a third party for repairs, http://www.palcocellphonerepair.com/. they quoted me around $68 for repairs and said the highest cost for repairs is at $71 for an lcd.
