If I could produce a little test app, would anyone with device be willing to confirm functionality?

I'd be happy to test your application, once I receive my device. IMO, as you actually have your own applications to bring to the Harmattan platform, you are more deserving of an N950 than at least one successful applicant (take a look through the list, and you'll see who I'm referring to ). I'm sure this applies to several other unsuccessful applicants.

I don't know who are you referring to, but keep in mind that the N950 is not only distributed to developers but also to community members who have done a lot for the community and plan to continue to do so.
I'd love to see everyone getting a N950 but sadly that's not possible..

Check the list, mate. The person I'm referring to is a developer. One that did not have the common decency to inform me that he was planning on porting my work. His application was based on that, which is probably why he kept it to himself. I had the pleasant experience of discovering his intentions when I read through the list, and my name was not there at the time, so you can imagine my reaction. My point is that there are other developers that have their own applications that they would like to bring to Meego/Harmattan, and they should get priority over someone that gets a device on the basis of someone else's work.
I'm not questioning the value of application testing, platform evangelism etc. These form an important part of raising the profile of Harmattan.
