I bought this Samsung charger from eBay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...=STRK:MEWNX:IT

The plug goes into the N900 soooo much easier than the standard Nokia one. Whenever I plug the Nokia charger in or pull it out, it feels like I'm scraping my nails down a blackboard. But this Samsung charger just clicks in and out really nicely.

I'd recommend it to any N900 owner tbh.
Just file down the two hooks on the charger (unplugged), usb lead and car charger kit. that should help reduce the risk of usb wear n tear.

Although i have done all this and mine still broke, but it could still have been user error like pulling the charger out at an angle in a rush etc etc.

actually most of us think that pulling the cable backwards is what makes it loose but nope..
shaking the cable and trying to slide it out is what makes it loose..
it breaks when we move it sideways and up and down.. not forward or back..

Yeah but without the 2 hooks being filed down it grips the phone like you would grip a winning lottery ticket in a string wind..... 'tight' So the natural thing to do is wiggle the lead out.

No hooks + no wiggle = reduced movement on the socket therefore prolonging socket life.

im not sure if i should blame nokia.. coz actually the hooks kinda ok for me.. its the way usb is placed.. its jus stuck there with 2 solid soldier points..
nokia should atleast give it a boundary wall of sort so it doesn't shake around too much.. like a 3 walled room surrounding the port.. the chip is almost empty with loads of free space.. this is a cheap design flaw..

They also want minimal contact with the outer case, for protection when you drop your device on a floor

walls around the port dont necessarily have to be attached to the exterior frame.
the design is poor.. if designed properly, n900 could have atleast had a bigger battery and/or wouldnt be this big in size, with a lil gain in weight but then again, it cant be worse then it already is.

You're aware this is mostly a hoax, at least definitely it's not something that will result in a fix that's working longer than ~1 week, do you?
There are quite a number of fairly decent explanations and threads about how to fix USB the *proper* way (means the way that will last)

Some links I picked for my personal reference - probably it's not too silly to read the whole thread though the URL points to the most important post:
instead glue: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...991#post547991
if pads/traces came off (get the .zip): http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...7&postcount=27

Please don't fool yourself about superglue, a) it's always elastic, b) it won't stick too firmly to the green varnish, c) it will however stick like hell to other components, traces etc - so after you found out the fix suggested here isn't really a persistent solution, your problems probably just started and you CAN NOT wash away glue with acetone etc, as this will finally kill the whole board

cheers
