i have just read the service manual of the n9 and i must admit that i thought it would be much easier to change the battery. you even have to remove the camera module to get to the battery. that is a real fiddly sh*t.

Even with the information I just pointed to, how many people are actually complaining about closed-source hardware graphics drivers? That's a battle that has never been won, and won't be any time soon. I'm not saying it's not a good fight, but the IP owners don't appear to have competing at the open-source level as their highest priority. Look no further than the desktop.

So for me, the more interesting question is, "Who has the system with the most easily replacable closed-source bits?" The middleware of all the Nokia Linux offerings seems to get more open with every iteration.

But with that said, at first glance the MeeGo 1.2 Harmattan front-end is more restrictive than Maemo 5; Nokia is obviously trying hard to compete with iOS. But it's just a front-end. Certainly easier to replace than closed middleware. And that's where eventially a reference MeeGo implementation will come in. Or even something like the Cordia project can be successful. But who knows, with Elop at the helm the future looks very charcoal gray to me.

In the meantime, who gives a sh*t, my n950 is already in England by way of Finland and Germany! Yeah, baby! Next stop, San Diego! Nokia still owns me.

If not accepted anywhere else, why is it accepted here?
Be specific.

And yet no Unity3D or other 3D frameworks for the N810. Interesting.
Just a fact of modern-day geek life: Your 3D is only as good as your 3D drivers.

nokia is in deep ****.
http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/...untries/014878

elop managed to kill all nokia markets. wp7 is failing.

if n9 doesnt pull, nokia will need to make android devices.

Where do I find the service manual?

I know Eflop thinks that all-in-one social screen is a benefit.. I don't like it, personally, and I think a lot of people would like ACTUAL first-party support... who's to say that Nokia's implementation goes awry and incompatible... then what? Can we depend on Nokia to immediately fix that stupid update service's firmware?

As a geek's toy, it lacks a good, proper desktop experience interface, has WAY too much closed-source and it's a step-back from all other devices out there in this current generation with similar hardware specs. I'm looking right at an HTC Sensation, right now for example. I'd rather have that for the overall support, quality, utility and even--yes--for it's geek factor.
Man there's so many inaccuracies above that I don't know where to begin.

The irony is that Dan was the only one that thanked you for that comment...
When in fact it was he that started the convo about N9 being shite, because it's doesn't have "open" hardware drivers.
Which is one of the weirdest arguments I've ever heard personally...
Given that most OSS projects exist & are successful, despite many or most of their hardware drivers being closed binary blobs

*In reality they have been addressed before, but you continue to believe what you want, so it's pointless.

I simply agreed that there will be few purchases, sadly, for this Eflop mangled device. It could/should have been a better offering. I eagerly await the N950 to see if that's any better--so far, he does not instill much confidence, no.

And again--what makes THIS device any better than anyone else's, then? The openness is hardly an advantage here. It's hardly any more open than Android, given the closed video drivers and apps--at least even the system apps and launcher are easily replaceable without being forced to HAVE to use any closed apps, all without ruining the system unlike Maemo so far. I'd like to see if this Harmattan in-between Maemo and MeeGo abomination is any better.

Never before have a read such anticipation and hearsay on a Nokia device prior to release, just goes to show how badly the old Nokia is missed !.
I reckon this N9 will be an astounding success and if i were Nokia i would certainly be putting as many eggs in my basket as possible with the N9.

I have a feeling the device on show in Singapore was a pre-preduction model and could very well come out in its final release slightly different hardware wise and if Nokia has any clue left they would certainly take a good long look at this thread !.
