so if this infection reaches to the /var/cache/apt folder, is there anything else I can do other than reflashing my N900?

I just bought this phone after I lost my previous N900 about a month ago. so I restored both rootfs and optfs backup and that's how it happened.

Actually it would be useful if you posted the output of ls -al /var/cache/apt . It would also help if you could tell us which guide you are following that led you to these errors. The default maemo setup does not do this and I am sure you are following some messed up guide to have issues like this thus accusing it as 'infection'.

Yes true, when I flash it, it goes back to normal. when I restore my previous backup using BackupMenu I get this broken link.
I can ignore the restore step but I dun wanna start everything from the scratch.

mate can u open your /var/cache/apt file and tell me what's inside other than the 2 files? so far the error disappeared but when I try to download or remove applications it says

could not open lock file /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open(2 No such file or directory)
Unable to lock the download directory
