once my phone cools down after the heating it reverts back to the same sporatic activity. after i heat it up with the hair dryer it works again. this is quiet rediculous. anyone have any permanent solutions to this?

hmmmm , mine never reverted .
and i figured out the reason why this happened.
when i went to gym i put my n900 in my sweaty pocket , it must absorbed some of the sweat , and when i heated it with hair dryer the sweat must evaporated .
this happened again when i put it in my bag with my sweaty clothes as well , so maybe u r doing something daily that causes this to happen

i do go to the gym alot and have my phone in my sweaty pockets and sometimes i sit in the sauna and listen to music which could also be one of the reasons this happens, if i set it in a bowl of rice overnight and stop taking it to the gym could that possibly stop my problem?

I think the main issue is the resistive technology. It was simply not meant for so much swyping and other finger dragging gestures.
Initially they were intended for point interaction, but someday some clever software developer invented thumb-friendly operation. Actually the wanted to emulate a iFruity which did have proper technology behind it.
It basically means that areas of the screen are systematically pressured, and the thin film becomes less uniform sooner or later. At the same time, covering plastics is deformed as well over time.
Can you specify what is your general use pattern?
Do you use stylus at all?
