first of, sorry if a simiar thread already exists but search gives me far too many irrelevant results, google doesn't help and I only havde my N900 on the hotels wifi to use at the moment.

I have come to France today and cannot access any network here! It's fine at home with T-mobile and I should be able to roam, but I cannot automatically connect to any networks. If I choose to connect manually, I can see 3 or 4 different networks (depending on where I am) but I just get "no access" if I try to connect.

I am on PR1.3 UK firmware, power kernel and cssu, nothing else that I have installed should affect anything.

Does anyone have any idea?

Check to make sure T-Mob have given you permission to roam! If the networks are visible but you can't connect, then it doesn't seem like a phone problem... what do T-Mob say about your roaming status?

problem is it's difficult to contact them. With no network access I cannot phone them. I have emailed them but god knows how long it will take for them to respond!

T-mobile doesn't roam by default (nor call abroad) on plans I think. Depends on your credit rating actually, I had to give a deposit of 100£ (reimbursed after 3 months) to have roaming, but I know people that were asked 300£... Well, I guess you'll have to find a way to call them.

not sure i have paid anything but have been able to roam throughout europe being on t-mo. but then i have been with them for more than 3 years now with a clean payment record...but i also have a payg t-mo sim which virtually has no balance in it as i use it only for internet within UK, and have managed to "roam" on that too...

I wasn't able to get any carriers with my N900 in Lanzerote, Portugal and Menorca. I just assumed it was 3 being awful as usual. It's good to remember though, thanks everyone

I'm on t-mobile and got a text in France about one of there data bundles for France. However I purchased a French PAYG Orange sim, added some credit and got data included, except oddly emails were excluded, so I had to access via webmail. Try a French Orange shop, you may need to give a French address though.

I'm on T-Mobile UK too. When I was in Tenerife I couldn't connect to any network (stock PR1.3, UK firmware). I used Wi-Fi plus Skype Out as a work-around. I got someone in the UK to contact T-Mobile for me and they seemed to think that it should just work. There was no mention of needing a deposit.

I would try flashing the global FIASCO image to see if that makes a difference.

It is true that there is a "UK" image and a "global" image for the firmware... maybe the issue could be there too. I've always flashed with the global one, so I couldn't tell if it could possibly stop you from accessing other networks.
