Yes - it is a tough decision - tell me about it!
But the N9 looks really awesome!
I'm hopeful there will be apps available... I mean weren't we all worried about the N900 - and I think there is a good selection of apps for the N900.
Does anyone know whether we will be able to change / add to the Software Sources / Application Catalogues for the N9 - as with the N900?

some swedish marketing person did say 20 000 apps from start but this sound VERY overestimated.
(Does even Symbian has so many Qt apps :-O

@Jayst - Glad to finally see you have time to post your views on AD. The fundamental question and the reason why we're disagreeing is probably "what sells a phone nowadays?"
Options are:
1. The OS
2. The Apps/Ecosystem
3. The Advertisements/Marketing (Simply how much the company is trying to push it)
4. The name of the company behind it or the fandom
5. Hardware vs. Battery life
6. Engadget reviews :P
It is obviously all of these (well except maybe the last one, but that's hopefully a consequence of the rest). We're disagreeing on the roles of 1 and 2.
Correlation vs Causation:
Do developers come if the operating system is good enough?
Do developers come if there are enough users?
Do users come if there are enough developers?
Do users come if the operating system is good enough?
Mildly OT stuff:
I'm an open-source guy, not a big mobile guy. I only got a laptop a couple months ago, I'm a desktop guy, run Ubuntu development stuff from pre-alpha, wrote my own desktop environment. This device has an appeal to me, not for its apps or ecosystem or lack thereof, and it reminds me of when I liked Android, back before it was cool and was still a geek thing. The G1 was the first smartphone I ever considered getting. The N900 was the second. The N9 is now the third. I still don't own a smartphone (though I've played with the main platforms), so I'm probably an odd source for analysis or insight. I've already committed to buying the N9. Support or not, devices like it don't seem like they're coming out any time soon.
Real questions to think about: Do any of you actually know people in real life who are excited about the N9, who didn't hear about it from you? How many people who you've explained the N9 to actually care about it? I'm hard pressed to find anyone who even knows that the N900 exists. Expensive advertising campaign for Nokia WP7 phones is a great idea.... for WP7 phones.... but so far the extent of the hype is N9Seconds (all of which seems like it was fully setup mid-june, making me think that it should've come out already).
- There is no info about any marketing that will happen.
- Nokia stores in the US are gone just a couple months before launch.
- Carrier deals here are unknown as well as somewhat unlikely given Nokia's track record, although with WP7 phones coming out, there may be better relationships.
It looks like the only people who will get it are the ones already looking for it. Everything is right with the device, but everything is wrong with how its coming out.
