I'm trying to write a startup script and can't figure out how to use vi. I've used nano recently but no longer have it because I reflashed my system. Now when I try to install it it isn't to be found.

Anyone have an idea where they went?

Nano is in the Extras-Devel repository last I checked. It might be in Extras-Testing too, though I don't think so.

(Now, just to counter the people who normally use Nano as an example for how a perfectly stable program is stuck in Devel: iirc, it doesn't have a bugtracker link, which is up to the maintainer to solve.)

there is nano-opt in extras (not testing or devel)

http://maemo.org/packages/view/nano-opt/

its what i use, should be listed in ham as gnu-nano

edit:
for a rc file check this:
http://maemo.org/development/documen..._pages/nanorc/

for syntax highlighting go there:
http://code.google.com/p/nanosyntax/.../syntax-nanorc

I have an 810 and am running OS2008. It's not in these repositories for 2008.

vi_, besides what other people might think, your behavior is NOT cool. I often see you giving super bright answers, you seam to think you are Albert Einstein or a super 1337 l33t h4x0r, but for other people you are nothing more like some guy who tries to make a cool appearance, while in reality you attempts are simply ridiculous, nothing more.

Even if you think someone asks stupid questions, you could provide a link to google and/or briefly explain stuff. This after all helps.

So, do us a favour, and stop this. Because it is annoying and doesn't help anybody.

Knowledge is understanding how to perform simple text manipulation in vi. Wisdom is installing leafpad and using that instead.
