Hey,

I just been doing some research and wondering if any of you are using Linux Media Center Edition.

Do you think I am able to use my n800 to control the media center?

would it have to be through a UPnP via a media server?

as Linux MCE has alot of potential as it's main focus is in home automation.

isnt MCE a windows naming convention? do you refer to MythTV or some other Home Theater PC software? do you have links or details about Linux MCE?

if you do refer to MythTV, the MythWeb plugin can be used easily with a n800.

edit

just googled it, and i doubt the n800 will be of value, for complete control anyway, as it has no IR port, so it cant control tvs and the likes that use IR remotes. i think RF would be out too, as the n800 cannot broadcast radio, just tune to FM.

Hi,

I am trying to install LinuxMCE and having some difficulties. However, it shows a lot of promise and the N800/770 would be an ideal remote for it. LinuxMCE doesn't seem to support the N800/770 at present but theoretically it should be able to support the N800/770 as a remote over either Bluetooth or WiFi. It already supports various Symbion phones and also PDAs. Since LinuxMCE is written on Ubuntu it should be possible to port.

Cheers,
Andrew

Must search Youtube for the Linux MCE 2 part 12 minute demo, it's quite something!

Actually it can control TV's, you can buy a networked IR replicator device that LinuxMCE can talk to and turn the devices on. So you control LinuxMCE with the N800, and tell it to turn everything on and LinuxMCE will. The N800 makes as a good orbiter for LinuxMCE, i have a few buddies using it as one.

Device I mentioned. http://www.globalcache.com/products/gc-index.html

I currently use LinuxMCE at the house, and a was using a Dell Axim X51 for the orbiter (got rid of it, battery life was crap), currently have been looking at an N800 or N810 to control the house for portability.

varry nice! i'll be looking into installing linuxmce software on top of a sidux (debian-based) distro. Anybody got other screenshots of their N800 controller software? it looks kind of pokey to me.

My MCE computer is one floor below the TV room, using svhs cable running up through the floor, so i doubt if that wireless mouse would make it through 30cm of steel-reinforced concrete? probably not, huh. Hence, n770 to the rescue!
