Not sure this will improve the mood of anyone who's been lumped with a symbian phone but for the benefit of anyone who's got a fault covered by warranty: I have just had my device replaced by Nokia UK and now have a new/reconditioned N900, which appeared to come from Italy.

When I sent my device for repair I included correspondence making it clear that a symbian replacement was not acceptable AND that the T&C URI doesn't work (this is true) thus I didn't know what I was agreeing to. I said that "I ticked the box in good faith" and that I expected my device to be "repaired and returned in a timely fashion". Also, the device I sent in was reflashed but not sure that makes any difference. Beware ... check the t&c URI. Does it work?

Please don't flame me if you've been symbianed but for those who haven't yet: getting an N900 replacement is possible. You should include corresponence with your faulty device that is both polite and direct, requesting your desired outcome. Clearly, it's not possible to take the necessary steps with Nokia once the repair/replacement procedure has been completed so my suggestion is to be clear beforehand.

Good luck.

Thanks. I will call them on monday and mention again I had specifically requested no symbian handset (although can't remember reading t&cs). How long ago did you get the n900 replacement? I would prefer a reconditioned one rather than the e7. I know that they will say they don't have any but I will try my best to get one.

I have both E7 and N900.

Once the Belle update is out for E7, you will actually be quite happy with the E7 although it's still no N900. At least the E7 is better for multimedia (bigger screen, HD video recording/playback, HDMI etc) and has proper Nokia Maps and swype etc. (I prefer swype for one handed short messages etc)

The Anna update available now using Ovi suite in the UK... I updated on 24/08/2011!

Moreover, Belle is set for release before the end of 2011... if Nokia doesn't screw up... again!

Still assessing Anna, but I like the new portrait touch screen qwerty keyboard.
I'm guessing that you realize that Anna hasn't reached plenty of continents, countries, etc... yet, including the US, or even North America, IIRC.

I also have an N900, C3-01 (S40 6th edition), N8, and E7, and the N900 is my favorite by far, nothing else comes close, but I'll keep the E7 and N8 around for Qt development targets.

As for updates in general, even the C3-01 got an update (unless you live in the US, North America, again, etc...?) in April, but I still haven't seen that update either, nearly 6 months later.

I really think anyone who's had multiple Nokia devices in the past handful of years probably has a justifiable amount of frustration, and some sense of unrequited loyalty at this point.

After almost three months of waiting I took action: went to the OCU (consumer and users organization) in Spain and wrote a formal complain and notified Nokia that I was about to take legal actions against them.

Surprisingly, the next day I received an email telling me that they got an n900 for replacement and I could get it whenever I was ready to.

The thing is that I got my N900 back! YAY!!!

I'm the same, both devices, both have their pros and cons, and I use them for different reasons. After Belle comes out, I'll probably end up using the E7 more, and at any rate my wobbly usb port will have come out of the N900 by then
