Hey all.

This is going to sound extremely stupid, but hey, that's just me.

Anyway, I'm looking for some suggestions on how to organized all of my music.

Do I give each musician/band it's own folder and place the cover art for that in the folder as well, even if it's just one song?

Does anyone do themes here? Like separate folders for Christian, Alternative, Acoustic, etc.

Maybe a combination of the two?

I pretty much have all of my junk in one folder and it's just a hot mess.

So yeah, looking for an idea or two from you guys.

Thanks!

The most obvious way is Artist/Album folder structure. That's how I tend to start off organising my music, but like you, I quickly end up just dumping stuff in the Music folder without bothering to sort it. I only add albums, rather than individual songs, so it isn't too messy in my case. If you use a media player that sorts using ID3 tags, then it doesn't really matter (assuming the tags are set correctly).

Yeah ID3 tags mean nothing to me.

I'm so far behind in the current times of today. *lol*

I use Xmms on my four year old N800 so there's no current technology running on it.

I do know that it looks for cover art in the folder of the song that's playing.

It just makes it somewhat confusing when I have several thousand songs.

I like your idea of keeping Album/Artist folders.

I guess I'm just hoping for the best tree structure on how to keep it all organized.

Thanks for the response by the way.

Actually, here's the thing.

I have a network share thingy from my PC to my first gen Xbox running XBMC.

I had it update the cover art for all of my music.

This took forever since I have about 45,000+ songs.

I have no idea what it did, and I'm currently thinking to myself, okay, now what do I do in putting this all on my tablet?

I hope that makes some sense.

i've used mussOrgsky to organise my music using the metadata option. no option for genre though but you can add album art to single tracks

Do you have a link for this?

When I search in Google for mussOrgsky, I'm getting a crapload of this guy.

Oh, by the way, how important is it to rename all of your songs?
