December 13, 2007 -- Insecure.Org is pleased to announce the immediate, free availability of the Nmap Security Scanner version 4.50 from http://insecure.org/nmap/. Nmap was first released in 1997, so this release celebrates our 10th anniversary.

This is the first stable release since 4.20 (more than a year ago), and the first major release since 4.00 almost two years ago. Dozens of development releases led up to this. Major new features since 4.00 include the Zenmap cross-platform GUI, 2nd Generation OS Detection, the Nmap Scripting Engine, a rewritten host discovery system, performance optimization, advanced traceroute functionality, TCP and IP options support, and and nearly 1,500 new version detection signatures. More than 300 other improvements were made as well.

The new GUI look nice and not overly crowded so hopefully it will display ok and be usable on the N8x0 ;)

The only GUI problems I've noticed so far are the "Scan" and "Advanced" pages in the profile editor, looks like a scrollbar is necessary.

Too much effort for me right now, anyone else working on it?

I'm maybe asking something stupid but...

where can I find it?

Searched gronmayer and maemo.org (slowest website on internet) but no luck.

I've put my build up at: http://daveblank.com/nmap_4.50-1_armel.deb

no .desktop file, but I'll probably repack with one soon.

dblank - thanks for making your build available!

On my N800, upgraded to the release 2008 OS, Application Manager says it's an incompatible application package so I'm unable to install it.

Anything in the log?

It worked okay for me when installed via command line:
dpkg -i nmap_4.50-1_armel.deb

I got the incompatible error on 2008 beta-1 but with the just released update, goes in without questions.

Now for the gotchas. Seems there is an ownership problem in the deb For example

Nokia-N800-50-2:/usr/bin$ ls -l /usr/bin/zenmap
-rwxr-xr-x 1 1000 1000 4833 Dec 14 22:29 /usr/bin/zenmap

This causes things nott to run/launch correctly

Oops on the owner/group, but it's still read and execute for everyone, so that shouldn't be a problem.

What happens when you try to run it?
