Does it mean what i think it means??

Oh man... I'm glad I live in EU... here the retailer has to give a warranty additional to the manufacturer's warranty... so you always can contact the retailer regarding this...

That would suck!, but you should still just ask a Nokia care centre about the policy. This could just be that in India this is only enforceable by law this way. What Nokia actually does matters much more.
No idea what the law says in Europe about claiming warranty in different countries of the EU.
But the N9 is posted as "coming soon" by a number of Dutch webshops, so I think they will sell the devices.

Nokia Brasil did not want to fix my bricked n900 because I'd bought it in the US. And I'm not even talking about honoring the 1 year warranty. They didn't want to fix it at all!!!

Since Nokia USA doesn't ship repaired devices abroad, I got stuck with a bricked n900 that I'd only used for 3 months!

I contacted Nokia Finland and they told that Nokia does not have international warranty and that Nokia units in each country are free to decide wether they want to fix broken devices bought in other countries.

I really like Nokia devices. I really hate Nokia customer support.

Don't get me wrong, i want this device. But i live in the US, & that warranty thing urks me. But my wife has an iPhone 4 & she had dropped it in the bay fully submerging it in water for about a minute or two. Not knowing what to do for a day or two, i sat it in a bowl of rice with no luck. Bricked. We decided to take it to the local apple store. There, for a 1 time only, they gave us a refurb for FREE. Now that's support. Just sayin....

I was in singapore when I had problem with my iPhone 4, they basically did the same thing. I called their int'l support line for assistance, scheduled a time to visit their local service center (cause my schedule was packed and I didn't want to waste my time if it wasn't definite) and they had a refurb unit waiting for me when I get there.

The whole deal took less than 15 minutes, including testing the new device... which basically looks like a new unit to me. Including pristine screen and glass back, still protected with the peel-off plastics.

PPPS Since crisis is continuing, you would face it more often. Get used to it
Whatever the minutiae, the bottom line is that a US consumer will understandably think twice before purchasing a Nokia device. And what about Windoze Phone? Isn't part of the rationale behind the switch to WP that it will help Nokia crack the US market. Good luck with that if they're going to treat those customers as second class citizens.

If you want support from Nokia then you must be prepared to take or send it to the country you bought it in, if you dont then you will not get support simple as that.
In Europe we have the European court of justice and i do not know if a case like this has been presented or not but international support is questionable in any event regarding Nokia, i have always read that devices are only supported in the country of purchase.

I personally would not buy the N9 outside of the country you live in unless your a frequent traveller to the country you purchase it from.

The Nokia "Limited Warranty" states clearly it is only valid for the country of purchase and is applicable worldwide.

nice to hear all those horror stories of how bad nokia are for support etc.
i bought my n900 in the uk, (not available sim free in ireland) and i had a problem with the ear piece, was loose so cutting out when on calls. brought it into a repair shop who fixed it through nokia warranty for free. i gave them €20 to do it in an hour instead of 24hours, they also replaced the LCD because of some dead pixels.
