We also have gestures to switch on the way so we don't even need X buttons - worth a watch - gets interesting around 00:30

@Trisha :

Download Ubuntu ISO from here :
Ubuntu

then write it to a USB/CD and boot from it.
choose live cd mode.

now you can use ubuntu without installing it.
once in ubuntu download this these :

Image file : mg-handset-armv7nhl-n900-ce-testing-1.2.90.5.0.20110927.81.CE.2011-09-27.1-mmcblk0p.raw.bz2

Kernel : mg-handset-armv7nhl-n900-ce-testing-1.2.90.5.0.20110927.81.CE.2011-09-27.1-vmlinuz-2.6.37-20.1-adaptation-n900

from :
Meego 1.3 N900 CE

once these downloads are done..
head over to :
EMMC Install

and follow the guide..if everything is done properly..meego will install on your emmc.

I'm a little confused trying to follow the installer directions. In the past there was a note on one of the n900 pages that indicates there was basically 2 sets of drivers...proprietary closed drives from Nokia and open drivers written by the community (?).

I don't see anything like that now. Have the drivers been built into the testing build and, if so, which drivers are they (closed or open)? If not, where are the driver directions in the install notes?

edit: typo correction

Ahh ... it's the "BLUE symbol arrow"-backspace. Not ctrl-backspace on my N900.

Now that should make testing easier. There's alot of crashy apps here!

The browser is nice and quick though. Is it possible to zoom?

Booting took a few attempts on my N900. Couldn't mount rootfs. I tried rewriting the MMC but that had no effect. Persisted with battery out cold start and finally got it going. Seems to boot reliably now (which is a good thing).

Have just run zypper up so not 100% sure what image I'm using.

Browser is very fast for this HW. Scrolling seems intermittent but nice and smooth when it works. Camera is also very fast. Both of these are significant improvements on Maemo.

Lots of things broken at this stage (so far I've had to restart because of crashes in Fennec, Packages and complete lock in Terminal. Video/Twimgo/Kasvopus not working) but if you want to see what Meego could be (could have been?) it's well worth a look.

1.3 is much faster than 1.2 but the current image is not stable so not usable day to day.
