There is a reason. Marketing.

In South Africa, most cell towers are backhauled by 155Mbps ATM. One network has all their towers backhauled by 600Mbps metro-ethernet. Most networks advertise 42Mbps, while the network with 600Mbps backhaul everywhere advertises 21Mbps.

Please tell me which one is going to give you better bandwidth and latency ...

(You don't need to retype the filename at the end, if the destination is a folder... and to be safe, end the folder name with a / so you can get notified whether it had properly put it into an existing directory or else it'll create a FILE with the name sources.list.d if you don't.)

Again, hope that helps. Seems like common Linuxy stuff, so far.

whats weird is that i should have root once developer mode is switched on, no? maybe ive misunderstood it and you need something.

Some parts of it is N900 deja vu.

e.g. I deleted the default MP3 music files it had in /MyDocs/Music/. Then copied my own mp3 files. It saw my new ones but still thinks that it had the original ones also. But then it can't play them and throws an error a the file is missing. There is no way to refresh the library manually from what I can see.

So had to enable developer mode (which installs xterminal app for you) and then had to run "tracker-control --hard-reset". Few seconds later, voila, old record is gone and now only sees what it should see.

Glad I was an N900 owner. =P

That cannot be answered since the bottleneck could be anywhere. You also haven't given any real latency information, only vague information about their infrastructure. The best possible way is to be pragmatic about it and test it, much like the available tests there are of HSPA+ and regular HSDPA. But rest assured that if the one with 21Mbps could legally advertise a higher bandwidth but isn't, then they are not doing their job properly. The launch of HSPA+ has been a "soft launch" at least here where I live so marketing has nothing to do with it.

Does any one know how to change the system fonts in N9? It cannot display Korean characters and this is just driving me insane.

It would be a good idea if a new thread could be started for all the tech side of the N9 post release to leave this one for people who still want to aquire the N9.

Slai could you be the one to start a new thread for the techy side of the N9?.

You were probably one of the very first to get it and the most active.

PS we all need your input too .

I STRONGLY recommend not to mess around with root owned files/directories at the moment. Not until N9 gets a flasher so that you can reinstall the firmware. Last I checked the flasher for N9 is not yet available.

The /etc directory is protected by Harmattan's security framework aegis, so just being root is often not enough to modify the files. Also, the security policy is such that if you modify some files that are deemed "critical", aegis will force the device into "malfunctioning" state which you can't fix without reflashing.

Anyway, someone already posted the correct instructions. After installing the developer tools, you should have "devel-su" command. Run that, the password is "rootme". After that you should be able to modify the files. But I recommend you to wait until N9 has flasher.
