do i have to wait for the next cssu update for this or is there a simpler way (other than compiling camera-ui myself) to test this?

But why does you gst-launch command works with KP48?
, i.e. no need to scale from 1280x720 to 848x480

Q. This highlights something quite important:
The CSSU is surely destined for all users, not just power users. If the camera is due to incorporate HD functionality, shouldn't associated packages not depend on the enhanced kernel? Standard users may not want to install kernel-power or over clock but the HD buttons will exist in the UI - unless there's going to be a fork for the kernel-power camera-ui (more work!)?

Pre-build binaries which have support for 720p video recording here. You MUST have CSSU 16.8 installed to use them. And 720p drivers/codecs (search relevant thread for howto) if you wish 720p video recording.
Supported resolutions are 1280x720@30 and 960x720@30.
Source code here for camera-ui and here for gdigicam.
@Estel - who said it is impossible? And...what was the bounty :P?
@nikolai - it is up to you(and CSSU team) from now on. Should I request a merge?
EDIT:
Localisation strings and icons are missing for "HD 16x9" and "HD 4x3", please do not report that as a problem.

reboot after installation, so new options to appear in resolutions menu.
