I have to say, I for one am 100% dissappointed with OS2008 on my N800 thus far. The previous beta turned my tablet into a sluggish mess, even with the same applications (actually a few less) as I had on OS2007.

I've spent the past 4 hours re-setting it up, waiting for **** to download. Repos won't load, apps that I had in my backup won't download. I've been trying to install Battlebegeweled for 30 minutes now, it's only a 268kb file for pete's sake!

As beautiful as the new OS is, if it's this freakin slow, I'd just as soon stick with OS2007, frankly. I'm extremely upset at this point with the whole OS2008 experience.

Update:

I have flashed my N800 with the new OS and Skype. I have placed two very long calls with Skype-Out already.

Both calls went perfect as could be imagined. The first call was 35 minutes long. No issues whatsoever. The second call was longer and also worked mint.

Skype with this Official OS release today seems to be flawless.

M5

EDIT: The second Skype call went 47 minutes (when I ended the call) with zero problems....no chopiness, no disconnects, no anomalies. Perfect ! Now onto testing the bluetooth headset with Skype. Keeping my fingers crossed.

EDIT: paired this OS2008 - N800 with my Motorola (mono) Bluetooth headset ( HS850 ) and opened the N800 browser, steered to www.sky.fm and started streaming music to the bluetooth headset. It worked! Sound quality was fine ( for the HS850 which isn't High Fidelity ). Smooth, clean music (in one hear), nice.... Now to test it all with Skype.

Hopefully it'll be better than the beta in which I had horrible sound quality from the headset (ie a ton of static and crackling) in any program I tried to use.

rcadden...
What? Either you have a disfuntional device or you just seriously undermined your credibility. OS2008 is much faster than OS2007. Are you confusing current download speed with performance of the device? "Sluggish mess" indeed.

Ricky, there's nothing wrong with OS2008. The problem is that there's 300k people updating and attempting to reinstall their apps all at the same time. Wait a few days, then judge it.

The only sluggishness I had on the previous beta was when I had the adblock+ extension installed.

No static, no crackling......sounds good ! Sky.FM opened Media Player on the N800. I have yet to try other audio apps. stay tuned.

Note: it's the OS2008 firmware for N800, not N810.

Media player seems far better in this OS than OS2007 (so far--limited testing).

A video that I previously could not watch using media player ( too choppy ), which required Mplayer for satisfactory/smooth viewing, now plays pretty smoothly in Media Player........and the audio come into my left ear's bluetooth headset too, nice.

I like the skins ( UI ) in 2008 better than 2007 also. Scroll bars are easier to grab, text looks crisper, more readable.

I think maybe Ricky was under the impression that his Wifi speed was changed by the update, not realizing that the repos are getting so hammered.
