The only signs of life I got were, connecting the phone with no battery in it to the charger and I get a 1 second notification light flash (orange for charging).
Is it possible the battery fried itself ? Can I do any more 'tests' to indicate where the problem is?
I will try to find a spare battery from somewhere ( I ordered one from alienexpress like 5days ago ... the irony... ) to see if the problem lies there.
