In case you haven't noticed, the official download site is absolutely hammered. If you need to get a copy of OS 2008 for your N800, there is a torrent available at:

http://www.mininova.org/tor/1051742

I downloaded the file at close to a MB/sec and there are 20+ people seeding the file. You will have no trouble getting a fast download this way and will help to relieve pressure on the official site. The MD5 on this file matches the one provided by the official site, so there is no difference.

MD5 = 89e0661318f60420c691f4e1dd0c6ba3 RX-34_2008SE_2.2007.50-2_PR_COMBINED_MR0_ARM.bin

If someone wants to create a torrent for OS 2008 for the 810, I would be happy to help seed that too.

I'm downloading the torrent just so I can seed. I'd also be willing to seed the N810 for a few days if it helps.

Absolutely. Nokia should consider setting up their own torrent next time around.

If they really insist (why, one must ask) on users having to enter their wifi address then this can be accommodated too - there are lots of torrent sites that make you log in before you can download one of their torrents.

I would also seed the N810 firmware if someone would make a torrent available! (currently I'm seeding the N800 firmware).

can anyone independently confirm that the md5sum above matches the one on the nokia download site?

Unless, of course, BitTorrent is blocked on your network. Whee.

I can verify that the file I downloaded via the torrent has a md5 that matches the copy I downloaded from Nokia's download site. In other words, the two files are identical. If you want to verify this for yourself, Nokia has the MD5's posted in a file named something like MD5Sums in the same directory as you would download the firmware image from, but good luck getting in.
