Secure NFC in this context means secure payment. Nokia is committed to supporting the specification, implementation and introduction of NFC phones with the SIM-based (Single Wire Protocol) secure element.
But . . I sent an e-mail to Nokia today, asking;

The N9 can support some secure element ?

I think/hope monday-evening we have the answer here on Maemo.org. First here for you, you deserve it , and then I will give this answer a nice place on my website. http://www.nfc-phones.org/nokia-n9-n9-00-lankku/
Lets hope it will be a crystalclear answer.
Crystal clear answer from Nokia :O U have to be kidding that will NEVER happen

Hm, somehow I doubt they'll understand exactly what you're asking.
And even if they do....
I have my doubts they'll be able to give you an accurate answer.
But good for you for trying...

N9 is a upgrade except from N900 except HWKBD but personally have now problem with vkb anymore cause its BEST vkb so far of those phones I had tested...

I own and use both the N900 and N8 daily and I wouldn't call the N8 a downgrade. A side step, maybe. Admit it, you just have nothing but hate for it (and Symbian) that you refuse to see some of its benefits even if it hit you in the face and still **** all over its parade. But hey, you have your opinion and so do I and so does the poster you were replying to.

Seeing good (and consistent) reviews of the N9 is concerning. The slashgear one ends with:

"We can’t blame Nokia for the direction the company has chosen – there’s more to it than mere software; Windows Phone gives them a platform, a developer ecosystem, and the might of Microsoft among other things – but we can be more than wistful that the N9 and MeeGo came that little bit too late to have their true worth recognized."

That seems like a roundabout way of saying "Nokia wouldn't be able to provide a proper ecosystem for the N9" or "a device like the N9 is more than Nokia is capable of fully supporting alone." Which essentially boils down to "its not that this phone isn't good enough for Nokia, its that Nokia isn't good enough for this phone, and the WP7 decision makes sense because of this revelation."

What's worse is that may not be too far from the truth. Apparently even Steve Jobs didn't think Apple would be able to handle apps, and look at them now.

simple way is just to check out customer reviews and look for forums with complaints about them. ratings sites like these can help when deciding if to purchase from a particular reseller. suggesting using Web Of Trust aswell.

Edit+typos:
i've heard of these also but never used them. not many places that take laser cards outside of ireland.

well they are the first people who leaked the whole video of E7 thinking it was a N9 back long time ago. They were the only one with the actual working unit until the E7 was remotely wiped. and they have been selling phones for a while.

Vitriol aside, any thoughts on choosing between the two or what you prefer in each? I love the n900, it's the best phone I've ever used, and would definitely be happy with another one (and that luscious hardware keyboard, mmm). That said, I'd also love to learn about Symbian development and certainly wouldn't mind the camera on the n8. Having watched some 'Belle beta' videos, I'm not totally blown away by it from a user standpoint, but, compared to the dumbphone I'm using, anything's a vast improvement.

Googling around for people comparing the n8 to anything provides very few useful results, since it takes an n900 owner to know what the benchmark really is! :P
