I just got the bluetooth headset, nokia one, for the N810, and every time there is a sound initialised through the n810 into the headset, the headset makes a beeping noise. The battery is fully charged, and i suspect its a "feature" of the headset? What it means is that when i'm driving and using the Wayfinder Navigation, i'm missing some of the direction instructions because the "beep" noise cuts out the voice for at least a second. Is there a fix for this, or is it always going to be like this, because if it is, its ****.

Now that's a thought, and a good explanation for the "static" I get during the first half minute or so of listening to newly-started music. I'll watch the screen next time and see if it's timed dimming coincides with those sounds.

To me it renders the headset useless because i only want it for sat nav and hearing the directions, everytime the voice comes on, the bluetooth device reactivates itself from idle/sleep mode and does so with an irritating "BEEEEP" noise, which plays over the voice commands! I'm taking it back today, i'll try another bluetooth headset in the shop if i can, or do all bluetooth headsets beep when they become active from sleep/idle?

this is how bluetooth headset work (doesn't it beep when it gets connected to your phone?) - it sends AT connect commands.

the problem is that nokia optimizes the power consumption (we all like that). so it cuts out even the sound. If you have a N800, let it inactive, then when the screen turns black, tap on it. if you listen carefully you should here a very very low static - the speakers are turned on somehow. (let it a few seconds, the noise will disapear again after the screen is turned of)

The same happens with audio via bt, i suspect it uses the same sub-system (hence the on/off logic)

So the solution would be not to save power on the sound subsystem, or to hack the bluetooth system not to disconnect when the request comes from this power-saving feature (yep, not a bug, a feature )

if you want something without the beeping, try a some bt heansets with A2DP, or ask someone to hack the os2008 (my vacation will come soon ... ... losts of freeeeeeeeee timee )

So, I'm not entirely sure if this is related... but I just got a bluetooth headset with A2DP for my N800. It works great! There are two problems though.
1) When the headset has been turned off for a while and then I want to use it again there doesn't seem to be any easy way to tell the N800 to search for it. The only way I have figured out how to do this is to go into the control panel, then bluetooth, then devices, then delete my headset as a "trusted device". Then select "new" and have the N800 search. This is a pain in the ***. Has anyone figured out a better way?
2) When there is no sound coming from the N800 the headset beeps in my ear in the most irritating way every 3 seconds or so. Is there a way to change the settings so it won't do this?

Edit: I have read the entire "A2DP: it works, help me test it?" thread by Johnx. It is now clear to me that what I actually have going is an A2DP capable headset that is communicating with my N800 via the HSP protocol and working through both earphones. The issues I mentioned above are still annoying as heck though. Can anyone help me with these?
