Sorry for noobish questions, but i was unable to find it somewhere else:

I am from Czech Republic, I want to travel to Belorussia over Poland and Ukraine.

Will the GPS work outside of my country? I will not be able to connect to the internet, because the abroad fees are like 20 times bigger.

Thanks

From my experiences, the GPS doesn't seem to get a fix unless it is connected to the internet.

My Integrated GPS (no internet connection) gets a lock after 3-4 mins, never took me longer than that.

The GPS will work anywhere in the world.

The problem is that, by default, the N900 location software looks for an internet connection. Just disable the "Network positioning" option in Settings - Location and you are good to go.

Try to get to a place with a clear view of the sky - standing in the middle of a street/square speeds up the initial acquisition without "network positioning" considerably.

Once the initial fix is acquired, the GPS seems work as usual, including accuracy.

Importantly, a local map need to be in the device. It takes longer to get a position lock without network connection.

Don't worry about the GPS in the N900. It will get a fix without an internet connection. I personally use Mappero for my navigation needs. Download the maps beforehand or whenever you have an internet connection.
