Would also be nice to have an option to choose between some different VKB layouts in general.
Somehow the pre PR 1.2 layout worked better for me.

Though that's only the slower, less feature-rich QML version. But seriously, I now start to think it's entirely possible to bring the N9 system VKB to the N900 – we'll accept patches!
