Even if there isn't any resemblance, according to the article Hildon can be skinned on the fly, without much effort, it was even made to look like Windows.

First, S80 Hildon was orphaned, much like the N900 was, more recently.
You've got this confused. S80 was for the Communicator series. Although it was intended to use Hildon with a Communicator, that never happened. Hildon was S90.

Only via hindsight are we able to criticize Nokia for not capitalizing on Hildon, Maemo, even MeeGo and the rest mainly due to management decisions that were made. Actually, it's pretty damn sad to know what could have been and what is known now to be their future path.

It's downright ****ed up.

Yes, I saw that picture, but it's just a theme. You can see the layout is exactly the same. It was a breakthrough for the time to be able to skin the whole system, but it's really easy today to disguise a linux distro as, well, everything

All of those are ubuntu

But it could just as well have been Win3.11 , it was nothing strange with reskinning a pc-system back then, and even long before that...
-Im also is quite confident that it was possible to reskin the first N9000 communicator too, since its original interface was a only new skin for geos.

And finally wikipedias picture of Geos...

What I dont get is why wasn't picked up by Samsung or HTC as a phone OS framework? Why Android? Hildon is not Nokia's property, afaik. Hildon is less resource hungry than Android and IOs. Its really annoying having to press that task killer on Android every 5 minutes.

Samsung used Symbian+S60 on some phones. HTC was basically all winmob until Android. SE had a series of phones using Symbian+UIQ, and Motorola had a couple of the same before the almost folded and went all in with Android.

Not to forget Sendo X and X 2, Siemens SX1 (dog i hated the side keyboard!), some LG's, the usual wierd Japanese stuff, et al.

Btw: "Sendo sued Microsoft in December 2002, alleging it stole proprietary technology and trade secrets and used those to launch itself into the mobile phone market."

EDIT: Ohhh fuuuk, this looks familiar to us:

"If Sendo's case progresses, it's likely to add new stars to the litigation firmament - one which has already brought us phrases such as "cut off the air supply", "knife the baby" and faked videotape evidence, and the most likely star in this turn should be one Marc Brown, who simultaneously served as a Sendo director while being employed by Microsoft. More on Marc in a moment."
