BTW - I was getting the "failed to update map list," too. It turned out that privoxy was causing it problems. I disabled my proxy settings and got the list (and maps).

I activated Maps with my Navicore key and downloaded maps for US East, West and Canada, no problem. Sure it's slow but I let it do that over night and in the morning it was there. I find a fact that I can download maps for other regions even though I only have license for North America navigation a plus.

Yeah, I forgot to mention, I stuck a fresh 2Gb card into internal slot to basically emulate what N810 has, and to avoid mucking with the original Navicore card.

"In "Map" you go to the main menu and select "maps." Then you see a window with "Maps in device" and "Available maps." When you select "Available maps" nothing is there BUT if you click on the "Refresh" button on the bottom a list of maps is downloaded. Then you choose your map and download.

Maybe that was obvious to everyone else but it took a dunce like me a while to figure out."

I get the fail to download message everytime too. I have followed the directions outlined above but to no avail. I thought the map app was supposed to come with free installed maps that we could view but not navigate on. Also, when I try to request the free license to evaluate the app I get a failure to connect message . You can't even buy the damn thing. I love my Garmin nuvi 200W. Amen.

I had errors downloading the maps; so, I deleted the maps directory and tried again. Then it worked --- took all night for the 600+ West Coast maps. However, a try before that, downloading locked up the tablet --- forcing a reboot. After that, my SD card became Read-Only. aaargh! Time for a reformat!

I to have entered the OS2008 Twilight Zone regarding my Navicore that was working perfectly under OS2007.
Now I cannot access either the old Navicore or the new "Maps".
If I attempt to purchase the new Map I'm told that I must first download a map. When I attempt to download a map the download starts the progress bar and just sits there...forever. I cannot seem to re-install the old Navicore. I have plenty of storage room and I have the original Navicore Memory card installed in the N800.

My thanks for any suggestions?

I still don't sure is the "Map" App is Free or
is a paid application.... If it's a paid App, Then I
don't need to waste my time to download the map data!

The basic "Map", with mapping functionality, is free, included with the OS. Routing is a paid (and rather expensive, compared to the competition) extra to that.

Thats mean the "N800 Map Free" will not
(a) Show you the Route
(b) using Bluetooth GPS

Am I said that right..?

Thanks......!
