I recently bought an N800 that promptly died after one day's use. I've read all the threads here about this weird "won't turn on" phenomenon, and tried everything I could (bought a new battery, looked for the magic spot on the power button, etc.) with no success.

I have made arrangements with the seller for an exchange, and here's my dilemma: During the brief time the thing worked, I saved some bookmarks and log in info, and now I can't figure out how to erase all this since I can't turn the device on. I can't get it to turn on long enough to update the software, which would (I think) accomplish what I'm trying to do. Am I just SOL? My plan is to change all my web site passwords if that's what it takes, but if there's another way, I'd sure like to hear about it.

You'd have to be able to power it up to reflash it.

No response even when plugging in the charger?

I've got it plugged into the charger right now, and it's giving me a slide show alternating between grey/black screen, a white screen with what I guess is a little green battery, and the blue "Nokia" on white screen. A couple of times it's briefly gotten past the logo screen and fired most of the way up, then promptly gone back to the slide show. I'd think it was a dead battery, except that I charged both of the batteries I've tried to use for hours each.

Does the power button just not respond at all if it's off-charger, or can you actually get it to show some signs of life?

If you can get it to show some signs of life, might starting it up holding down the home key (hold down the home key and press the power button). If so, this is probably far enough for you to be able to flash.

When I pull it off the charger, I have to hold the power button down for what seems like a long time to get any response, then all it does it give me the Nokia logo (then it goes dark again).

Thanks for the help, though! I'll keep playing around with it and checking in here while I wait for the replacement to arrive, but I'm guessing this one's toast. Maybe a Christmas miracle will give it enough power that I can either flash or get in and delete those passwords.
