error in X-terminal is as follow:

Nokia-N900:~# apt-get install kernel-power-bootimg
E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?

It means there is a lock file for APT active. That means, practically, in one form or another, a package-manager is already running.

See with "top" on your terminal which processes are active, kill the one that created the lock-file, or simply reboot...

I have that too, were you running nitdroid autoinstaller - also getting a 3rd party software error on kernel multiboot (cannot update that or untar).

I have run ps in terminal to show what is live, but dont know enough to go further, rebooting does not solve the problem.
