Technut, I don't know about you, but there is only one thing that I am more tired of than the duplication, and that is the constant mantra of complaints. I don't see why you find it so interesting to make the same complaints over and over again.

And by the way, you mention that someone might get fed up and leave. You are so right!! I have considered it many, many times, because of the thread cops, not because of anyone else.

Ditto!

I'll take enthusiastic newcomers over the "posting police" any day.

. . . and I'm about ready to leave because of the ever degrading signal to noise ratio and generally poor responses to attempts to help.

And who is going to actually *help* these enthusiastic newcomers? We've all been here since the beginning of this new "Thanks!" system.

geneven+adammelancon+shacky4 = 15
GeneralAntilles+technut = 147

You're all for mayhem in the threads, but is that really helpful in the long run? When those of us who want some semblance of sense in the threads get tired of the mayhem, are you going to step up and be more helpful?

Sure, why not, I'm a linux sysadmin by day.
I'm a member of other forums where I have almost 2000 posts. I've only had my tablet since June and I help when and where I can.

And I'm not a Linux sysadmin... in fact I know very little about Linux. And yet somehow I've managed to be reasonably helpful. What's holding *you* back?

Look, it takes all types to make up a forum, but it seems unwise to shoot those who make the effort to be helpful here.

I'm dropping out of this, because the topic is being discussed by reasonable people elsewhere on this forum. My apologies for getting carried away here.

So you know little about linux... which just proves that some of these newcomers will learn as much as you have and will want to help others as well.
No one person or small clique is the end all be all of forum knowledge.
Last time I checked I was registered at Maemo garage and have filled out bug reports, as well as helped out others on this forum.
I thought this was a community, not a competition.

Maybe I'm imagining things, but I don't remember this mantra back in January when I bought my N800 and joined the forum. There were some memorable flame wars, but not this constant every-thread thing. So if some people dropped out, I imagine that the rest of us would survive.
