It would be nice if their was a repository CD or DVD-ROM that could be easily duplicated and distributed for a nominal fee....

Actually, one of the reasons for repositories is that since code is updated so often, it's there and live when you need it.

The only problem with repositories arises when there are large upgrades like the one just released. The servers become overloaded and it becomes impossible to D/L anything. I would be willing to a wait a week and get a CD with everything and then upgrade as needed from the repositories. In any case, it would be nice if there was a network of mirrors for Maemo repos a la Debian or Ubuntu.

Funny you should mention that, I had to DL OpenSSH last night and no dice. I even tried changing repository.maemo.org to repstory.maemo.org and no luck. Normally, especially for things like Linux distributions, there are mirrors set up. I don't think the failing is with the repository system, but rather with no mirrors being available. Boo urns.

I removed the files from /var/lib/apt and recreated the necessary folders (apt will tell you which ones it is missing). Then it worked with "repostory".

Inexperienced users, on the other hand, might consider reflashing... :\
