Just making an official request thread.
First off, if mpd is already available then please accept my apologies and let me know where to find it!
Otherwise, I would like to request this incredibly useful application which supports playback of nearly all audio formats has a very small footprint in terms of resource requirements, supports gapless (YAAAAAAAY!) playback and has numerous options for client software (much of which is already available in the repositories).
Please please please could someone add this?
I've found this page but cannot seem to find mpd anywhere:

It hasn't been updated since 2007. Might work, but probably quite buggy, and might not work with modern clients.

I agree with this. There does appear to be mpd libs and clients, but not the server itself. I want to run mpd + ncmpcpp locally as ncmpcpp is the best player on Linux, in my opinion.
Edit: I just tried compiling it and it compiles fine and appears to run, although it fails because of the lack of config files and the rest. It should work once that is sorted. I wouldn't know how to go about integrating it into maemo's system without screwing things up, though. I'll have a play around with it tomorrow and see if I can run it from a user directory, without using any init scripts and the like.
In case it's not clear, I've only tried compiling mpd, not ncmpcpp yet.
