Hello there! Im new and i dont have much Experiance.
( Also a German from Bavaria, so dont blame me for my grama :-P )

I got my N900 about a Week ago. And im impressed about the Coder which spend so many time!

I also Love it to mess around..... especialy with portable Stuff.
My last "engeneering" was with Jornada 720 and a Vaio P

So now, i had to get a new Phone, and there was just one single coice for me..... N900!

Only Problem: I dont have much experiance with Linux.
Maybe thats it why i love Bootloader............. ( 3 Kills in 3 Days hehe )

- Whats the best way to start for me with Coding / Creating Apps?
- What Coding Language is the best choice for a Noob? ( a Nerd, but still a Noob )

My personal Challenge for the Beginning:

A Mediaplayer UI which isnt out there ( or i cant find it )
- Special made for FM-Transmitter + Driving
- Just 6 extreme large Buttons

.________.....________.....________
I..Prevew...I...I................I....I....Next... .I
I...Track....I...I.....Play.....I....I...Track...I
I________I...I________I....I________I
.________.....________.....________
I..Prevew...I...I................I....I....Next... .I
I...Folder...I...I.....Stop....I....I...Folder..I
I________I...I________I....I________I

- Easy to use with just short looks while Driving.
- Using the whole Screen for extreme Large Buttons
- Quick "Playlist switching" by !!! Folders !!!

So simple and so primitive, but i cant find a Player around there.
So i decidet to make it myselfe. Or atleast a Skin for an existing one.
Btw.... There is not even an "Hardware" Mp3 Player which works like this..... + FM Transmitter.
I was looking for month. Maybe a year until now.

Anyone who is willing to help me for the first Steps?

finally the "Edit-Button" appeared....

Well, thats the Problem. There is ever ONE Thing missing from what im looking for.
The management of the Playlists in most Players is annoying in my eyes.
I just wona Drag and Drop mp3s from Folder to Folder on my Home PC. And dont mess around with Lists.

Beside.... i would love to make some usefull stuff and get Coding experiance. So i need a usefull Projekt anyway

At the Moment, im helping myselfe with an selfmade HTML Skin. Not really "pro" like -.-

Hi welcome,

Is this the type of style that you are after?

This very pretty media player control screen was created to interact with the n900s media player whilst on th move (without navigating the fiddly button) using a tool called Queen Beecon Widget creator. It is a very powerful tool that can be used to create a wide variety of widgets and many have used it to make their own personalised media player screens (like switch has above)

You can find many examples here

The media player commands can be found here

You can still use your own images if you like. I would also recommend reading through the threads of the links I posted to for many more tips

You can probably get this going fairly easily with QML, using FolderListModel and QtMobility Audio elements

THX!

Just started reading about your recommendations. Looks like i have to do some real good research before i chose a way.

Well,.... for the Beginning, here is an example about the little Skills i allready own. "Graphiks" I work on it between the real hart parts, as some kind of relaxing.

I made this in Blender: (800x480)

Im also thinking about animates Gifs as Buttons. Is that recomendet in QML?

I prefer python and pyQt for writing simple applications for the N900 because I can code on my free time on the phone.

QML looks great!

Perfeckt klick and drop Tool for an lazy Windows User like me

I was planing on Phyton also, cuz i made some mods for Blender on Phy, but i guess, the N900 will be out of date, before im done.

Also QML seems perfekt for my "fake 3D" look.

An animated ( rotating/bouncing ) FAKE menu. ( gif/avi 24fps at 100 Frames ) maybe 15 fps

The 5 Buttons will be invisible in the Front. Like an Layer.
Middle button is Stop and Play in one.

Also a simple Settings menu:
- Main Folder selection
- Animation on/off

Not more, not less....

What you thinking about my Crystal 3d back to the roots Player?

Buttons are hard to read at the first moment, i know. BUT if you still need to read them after the first use... Then i missed my plan.

Also 90% will turn the Animation off i guess. Its more for the hidden Human Skills. An moving objekt is easyer to touch without fokusing on it, while Driving. Well.... and nice to watch beside driving

Animation will be postet soon..... Rendering is still a Pain for my PC.

EDIT:
www.voxters.de/Mediaplayer.avi
play in loop/repeat
