So I just got my Galaxy Tab 10.1 back from Samsung repair. I sent it in because of a screen defect (newton rings under the screen). With any repair, you almost expect that you might get a scuff mark or two on your device during the repair process. I consider myself lucky in that during my experiences with Nokia over the years, my devices have always come back repaired with very few insignificant (if any) additional scuff marks.
However my luck didn't hold up with Samsung. I sent in my tablet in pristine condition (outside of the newton ring issue), and though it came back with the screen repaired, the back of the Samsung had a dozen or more scratches on it. Several of the scratches were fairly deep. Honestly, the scratches didn't bother me a ton except for the fact that I was considering selling it to help me justify getting a next gen tablet when they come out, and of course, the scratches bring down the value.
So I called Samsung service to see what they could do, but I wasn't expecting much. What I didn't expect is that customer service basically told me that they had notes from a pre-inspection of the device that my tablet came in with scratches on it.
Now I KNOW the scratches weren't there before I sent it out as I had to take the Tab out of it's case to read the serial # off the back of it when opening the repair ticket. Most of the worse scratches are on either side of where the serial number is located, so scratches would have been super obvious. Yet, as I tried to explain that, Samsung customer service replied back that absolutely nothing could have happened on their side. The impression they left with me is that I was wrong and must have shipped my tablet with scratches on it. What kind of customer service ever says a customer is wrong?!?
To their credit, they are shipping me out a $25 Best Buy gift certificate, but I can't help but still be appalled with the repair and customer service experience with Samsung. It's times like this that really makes me sad that Nokia went Microsoft. Where are we to turn to for quality now? With my n900 recently deceased, I'm in the market for a new phone.
