Hi
I just got the N800 today, and was trying to install the UKMP or the Kagu media player. I saw that both need 'python' and media player to play. I think the media player is already installed. Right? I tried to look for and install python. All I see is that it is kind of a programming language. There is also an installable python demo in the tablet, under installable application which I tried to install, but was not successful. I get the msg " some files required for the installation are missing".

What am i doing wrong?Could anyone lead me to a posting where it is laid down step by step as to how to install these applications for a nubie like me?

Thank you

Just go to:
http://downloads.maemo.org/product/OS2007/ukmp/

And click on the INSTALL link.

That should do it.

*edit*
or if you have went to the os 2008 beta, then this link:
http://downloads.maemo.org/product/OS2008/ukmp/

Thanks for the response. I tried that and I see the same msg " Some packages for the installation are missing". So I thought that 'python' may be required.

So, what could be the problem here?

You get python and mplayer (this is different from Media Player) separately from UKMP or Kagu. Go to the maemo repositories page and make sure you're in the correct OS section (ie: OS2007 vs OS2008) then you can search for the files that you are missing and it will tell you which repositories they are in and then you can download those repositories.

Thanks.
That worked to install both UKMP and Kagu as well. However. Though Kagu seems to be working, UKMP just gets me back to the home page.

Also I saved it in a new favourite folder 'media player' which i want to delete. how do i delete this newly created favourite folder?

Thanks once again for all your help.

Not sure what you mean about UKMP... Need more info.

To delete a folder: go to Control Panel -> Panel -> Organize

If you use ukmp, I recommend also installing mplayer on the device. UKMP uses that for playing videos and getting video covers.

mplayer is still in beta in extras-devel, which is why I haven't made that to autoinstall along with ukmp.
