Also there are certain combinations of WiFi routers and N9 that make device discovery a bit challenging.

Hint: If you're on Fedora, the reason why it doesn't work is most likely the firewall.

Try recording a video with the device's camera and see if that shows up. Worked for me.

You need to restart VLC as it seems to cache aggressively and ignoring update events from the server. Also doing a full-depth scan of the UPnP server is not the wisest thing you can do as a client

Will there be client also... someday?
Maybe. I'm currently hit by an ugly Qt bug on my private project and need to redesign the internals a bit so it's taking a bit longer than expected.

Btw, that PPA broke everything else using ffmpeg/libav on my system

I'm also kind of curious why they made this a one-way affair(correct me if I'm wrong here). On my N900, I would open Media Player and all of my PCs with media sharing and my Windows Home Server would pop up right underneath Music, Videos, and Internet Radio. I could browse through all of my music and it was LOVELY to not have to transfer every random track I wanted to hear. Am I doing something wrong?

It seems Nokia loves to reinvent the wheel a thousand times....also one reason why they did so bad in the recent years...INCOMPATIBILTY was their motto ;-)

Well there's really not much to set up. Just make sure you enable upnp on the router, and on the ps3 make sure that media servers is enabled. Then when you turn it on you should see it within a couple of seconds.

@phako
Does N9 support play to external renderer(DMR)? Can it be made to control and send media content to another device supporting DLNA? Like select file and play to my home sound system(both on same LAN)?

EDIT: Ooooops - just saw your Helium project - that is what I ask for
