Hope this helps someone. The documentation gives specific info on how to install the external, but has no mention of how to install the internal memory card. No markings on the slot itself. Eyeballed the connection, and figured out how to position the card. Beveled edge on the left, and contacts facing inward. It firmly attached at the bottom contacts, but was flopping around at the top. Something was wrong. I noticed the metal latch above the card with a small arrow pointed downward. Carefully slid down the latch and the card was secure.
Reassembled unit.
Checked File Manager, and my new internal SD card was not recognized (grayed out).
I fired up the trusty SEARCH button on this forum, and found this thread. Popped off the back of the case again - square depression with NO magnet. Not even a sign of any dried glue on the plastic. After removing the SD card, and peering carefully into the NIT, I discovered my magnet on its journey halfway into the depths of the logic board. (Saw it
through the small rectangular opening in the metal to the top right of the card slot adjacent to the battery).
First I tried gently shaking the unit in a downward direction. No help at all as it did not move. Then I
carefully attempted to grab the magnet with a thin tweezer.
DAMN, pushed it further into the unit!
Finally I used a very thin plastic cable tie to manipulate the magnet downward. I was successful in bending and pushing the cable tie through the very TOP of the metal shield through a very small opening adjacent to the plastic case. (Directly above the rectangular opening referenced above). After pushing it down enough I could grab it with the tweezers.
Once I had that sucker, I put a small dab of good glue on both it and into the depression on the back cover. Re-inserted the SD card, slid down the metal latch, popped the cover back on, and VOILA, new internal memory.
Thanks for all for contributing to this board.
Love the N800, but that glue they used for the
magnet is worthless.
