I ordered my N810 directly from the nokia.ca web-site on Dec 18th; the day
before the Dec 19th date touted on the web page "guaranteeing"
delivery by Christmas. Initially I wasn't too hopeful as I had phoned
Nokia earlier and asked if they had any N810s in stock if I ordered via their
web site. They said nope - probably about three weeks. In spite of that
I pleasantly surprised to get a shipping email on Dec 20th saying it was
on its way leaving Concord Ontario heading for Richmond BC. However, it
is not coming via Purolatur as per their web-site but via UPS. The UPS
site says it is being re-scheduled for delivery Jan 02, 2008. While not
in time for Christmas it is better than waiting three+ weeks. Definitely
looking forward to it.

Cheers,

This is when you call back fishing for a discount. I hate UPS because of their brokerage fees for international shipments. They're #*$&listed with me just like Sony. Not only that but they couldn't guarantee delivery which kinda breaches why you made the sale. If you do call, be nice to the CSR - - it's the holiday season and they're just a pleb put under 50 layers of the people to the person who can actually do anything.

(Look, I'm adding to an existing thread even though I want personal attention!)

My fellow Canuckistanis... What's hot right now for the N810? I've been looking around but I'd love to see something $425 or less.

I've been looking around too, but I can't find anything in that price range or less. Does anyone have any estimate on how long it may take the prices to go down? It seems all the most expensive sellers are the Canadian ones. I thought Nokia.ca was the most expensive at $485, but those guys at expansys.ca take the gold at $509. Add PST+GST and shipping, and it makes for a ridiculous price.

The best place to keep an eye out is probably eBay.

I had the N810 on preorder @ ca.buy.com for $400.88. I just canceled it since I've been waiting since the 23rd of Nov. and have yet to see anything.

I pretty much decided today that I'll get away from my ancient 770 and go for an N810. The N800 would suit my needs but screw it, it's only $200 more and it's brand new.

Unless I can find a decent Canadian price (I don't wanna do Ebay for something like this, I want it new), it looks like a roadtrip to the US is in order. We can still get into the country via car until 2009 now. (And by then there might be a new president who isn't as much of a fear monger that they'll scrap the plans entirely.)

Ok, here's one option for you if you are considering going to the US to pick up. Just order it from Amazon.com. They have the N810 in stock for $439.99 and you will qualify for FREE super saver shipping. I've bought many items from Amazon over the years, and they are one of the best online merchants ever IMO. I thought about ordering one, but I'm too lazy to drive down to Buffalo from Toronto (also, lately I am toying with the idea of just buying the N800 and waiting to get 810 later).

Here's the N810 link.

Or ...

You could save yourself the hastle and expense of travelling to the USA, avoid their paranoid (everyone's a terrorist!) border crossing procedures, and avoid spending money down there, keeping a couple tax dollars away from their brutally pathetic government .... and order your N810 directly from Nokia Canada.

Sure, it costs a little more, but I got mine delivered 2 days after it was ordered, and my tax dollars stayed at home.

Well, you could do that and assume that no one will tell customs to be expecting you, and risk:
-fines
-confiscation of the N810 plus the vehical used to transport it over the border!
-jail time for smuggling and tax evasion when they can't locate the friend that supposedly gifted it to you, or your friend can't prove that he bought it, drawing him into the trouble.

... acquiring a criminal record that will prevent you from entering the USA (and many other countries) in the future.

Or, you could just declare it, as you are required to do for all goods regardless of how you acquire them.

If you are in the US for 48 hours, you can bring back $400 of goods duty free, and just pay duty on the rest. Items manufactured in the US or Canada, or that are not marked as manufactured elsewhere are duty free under NAFTA. Regardless you have to pay the GST and possibly PST depending on the province.

And you may want to research whether or not 'gifts' are still subject to duty or taxes according to their true value.

I really dont get why people risk all that trouble over such a small amount of money. If those dollars are so critical to you, than I'd suggest not making the purchase at all, you probably need the money more for food and shelter.

hahaa too funny.

I guess Hedgecore got his message deleted ... the one posted between my two posts above, that described his intentions to smuggle an N810 in from the USA ... while i was busy writing my response.
