Is this just a stock ticker or does it also offer charting? I saw what apple did on the iphone and it would be great to also have this sort of functionality in maemo?

Hmm, doesnt install on my N800 with OS2008. I see its designed for OS2007 but you have it working on OS2008. What could it be? I doubt its the fact that yours is a N810 and im using a N800.

EDIT: Found it here: https://garage.maemo.org/projects/omweather/

Thanks for the tip.

Can you get it to show just the symbols you are tracking and do you have to be a registered user to do so? If you do, is there a registration fee?

Also, do the quotes update live (without a refresh?)

Thanks!
BATS is an Automated Tading Center (ATS - they used to be called ECNs). They only offer institutional market data products, but they are unique in not imposing redistribution fees. You still have to pay for connectivity though (usually 45mbits minimum) for streaming data.

I dont think they offer any streaming internet options. However most of the quotes and orderbooks on their web site update in near real-time (delayed a sec or two rather than 20mins) without requiring a browser refresh. Bear in mind that these are BATS quotes rather than quotes from the listing Exchange (SIP).

Scraping and redistrbuting/redisplaying market data from websites is usually an infringement of the sites usage policy (as it usually conflicts with the SIP restrictions that they need to comply with), but BATS has clear ownership of their quotes so it mght be more doable.

I installed Python after I installed the stock ticker. I went back and checked it and it works now. If you hold your pen on it a very limited number of settings come up. Basically, add or delete symbols and what data to include. No transparency. Everything for me is in Spanish, which is a little difficult as I don't know Spanish.

But, it does seem to update! Not a very elegant app at this point, but it works.
