I've purchased a used 770 for my wife as a FBReader device. I don't have it in hand yet, but I'm confused about the memory card capacity. Am I limited to a 2GB MMC (Not SD) card? I've read some threads that say otherwise, but I thought that SD & MMC were identical in form, but different in internals.

770 uses rs-mmc. Not the regular size, so yes, you would have to buy rs-mmc card if you wish more storage otherwise for a few books, 64 MB card provided should suffice.

Something of interest, some Sandisk SD cards (the ones that look like this: http://www.fox326.com/bookpic/SDC/SD1GB.jpg) are actually roughly the same size as MMCMobile cards. I don't know if they're all like that, but if the 4GB ones are it's possible that the 770 will accept them as-is.

Here's the dissection guide:

maxmium is 2GB and rs-mmc (or mobileMMC)is the only one 770 will take, at least for now, period.

I am about to buy a 2GB RS MMC for my Nokia 770 (OS 2006, ver. 3.2006.49-2).

Would the 2GB RS MMC work on my device without re-flashing firmware, or some sort of hack? A search of the forum seems to indicate that a special modification was needed. Could someone please confirm that the 2GB RS MMC would work without any doing anything to the 770.

Also, I tried to test by using a standard size 2GB MMC, but could not get the 770 to recognize the card. Does anyone know if there's a pressure point where I can insert a paper clip or something into the memory card slot so I can simulate the closing of the memory card door?

Thanks for any help.

I don't recall if that's the latest version of the firmware, but if it is, then it will work without any other modification.

With the right kernel, any capacity SD card will work; there are, as I understand it, two form-factor issues; there's the length (rs-mmc vs. mmc), and the thickness (mmc vs. sd); both of these get in the way and require some modification of the card.

This site has them premodded; 8GB for $75.

Thanks for the replies. For some reason, I couldn't find a direct answer when I used the search before asking. However, I just did a search in Google, outside of Internettablettalk, and found this other relevant thread on the subject:

So maybe all the confirmations may help others wondering the same thing, in the future. I'm certainly convinced and will be ordering my 2GB RS MMC. Oh, I found that Media Converter can convert recorded TV shows from Windows' Media Center; video looks pretty good on the 770. Just thought I'd pass this along in case anyone is interested (as I am) in using the 770 as playback device for recorded programming.
