Before I start; yes I've read many many posts about how to fix your n900 if it wont boot/stuck in boot loop... but my problem is I fail at the first step of trying to rectify the problem.

My n900 is 18 months old; never messed with or played with. Working fine and then yesterday (more than 50%) battery turned itself off and wouldn't turn on. I assumed flat battery so put it in to charge, where it began to vibrate, try and boot (faint nokia logo) and then go off again.

I searched online, found posts about boot with U pressed etc etc...

Downloaded the 'flasher' thing, tried VARIOUS combinations of battery in/usb cable in with 'U' pressed to get the phone to start but it just wont... I get NO usb symbol, no anything... flasher always says "no suitable usb found or whatever".

If I leave the battery out for a few minutes, the phone will try and turn on as usual, white light comes on, nokia logo appears in full glory...but no further and then phone goes off

hope someone can help me.

Got a friend to charge my battery (took 4 hours!!) in his n900 and have successfully enabled rd mode on my phone (nokia logo has a spanner under it?)

Before i flash; is there anyway using the flasher3.5 that I can copy items off the phone...?!

Download the latest maemo flasher (here: http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/maemo-d...-downloads.php), and the latest firmware file (.bin) (here: http://tablets-dev.nokia.com/nokia_N900.php).

Put the firmware file (.bin) in /program files/maemo/flasher-3.5

Then open the flasher, type in: flasher-3.5 -f --flash-only=kernel -R -F <firmware-image>

The flasher will wait for the n900 to connect.

Put the micro usb in the n900, slide it open, press and hold "u" then put in the usb cable in the laptop.

It should reflash the kernel, no files lost

a possible solution to non starting N900...

connect it to NOKIA Suite (formerly OVI Suite) in Windooooz
may have to try it a couple times until oooooz has loaded the driver(s) & all & NOKIA Suite can see the device
worked for me (on se7en 64 bits) for a N900 that had been reflashed a few hours earlier
