I copied several chinese fonts files to the font directory and now my system displays chinese characters correctly on most nokia-installed programs like the web browser. Unfortunately, the media players don't display the Chinese or Japanese characters, how can I fix this? thanks!

Delete the ID information of the songs.

What's the "ID information"? And how do I delete them? Thanks!

The ID information is a block at the beginning or end of the media file which contains the tags that appear in media players. You can remove this information with a song tag editor (there are plenty of those around, for Linux I'd recommend ex-falso).

Be sure to use UTF-8 for the encodings or else the application will have problem displaying the correct characters. If you can see Chinese file names in the file manager on the tablet, then you got the right encoding for the filenames.

The SDL-based and evas-based media players (UKMP, Kagu, Canola1, Canola2) might not properly know how to render Chinese characters, though. The built-in media player however should have no problem with it. MediaBox renders Chinese if the encoding is UTF-8.

Oh yeah... It works - MediaBox is slow but work. I am pretty sure all the tagged information in my mp3 is in Unicode since they work well with iphone. It looks like the included media player also uses single-byte character - stupid UKMP, Kagu, Canola!

I have posted a page for Kagu's Chinese support.

It works well for me. Please let me know your comments
