I am unable to get a refreshed list from the http://maemo.org/community/wiki/HowTo_EASILY_BecomeRoot link, so I cannot get becomeroot. This is much harder than traditional linux to manuever. So directly on the N800 (not SSH or USBed), I conclude that till I can get/download becomeroot osso-xterm, I can only use the dropbear server to become a superuser.
If I wanted a lawyer, I would go to a legal BB. I am looking for app and install assistance and appreciate those who do assist me. Thanks!

I highly doubt any country allows network cracking. I know for a fact that the US, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, UK, Germany, Japan, and Australia have laws to that effect.

I just don't see the point of helping a scumbag thief break into people's networks.

Try doing it the harder (but not hard) way. Get openSSH, and then use ssh root@localhost.
Otherwise, you could check your installable applications list for 'becomeroot' <--where I personally got it.

What a gentleman you are. Considering you dont know me or anything about me, nor my purpose, I hope that wasn't directed at me, and that a little growing up teaches you about manners and jumping to incorrect conclusions. Not that its your business, but I repair corporate networks. I would bet my security clearance is higher than yours. You can ignore my questions...

PS - wouldnt this be your post; "That would be 0000, which is the pin of pretty much every bluetooth headset, and some bluetooth equipped cars out there."?

Ohhh, you repair corporate networks, big deal, so do I. Unless you work for the government I could give a crap about your "security clearance". It means exactly nothing outside of where you work. I don't need to do any growing up, I'm a veteran of two wars, and have seen enough, I don't want to grow up any more. My post wasn't really directed at you, but in people who think cracking their neighbor's wifi is "l33t". I'm a member of several computer security forums, and that's the kind of questions we see all the time. If that's not what you are doing then I apologize for hounding you. I highlighted why I am thinking what I do in a post a few above this one. Maybe if it was worded a little better. Yes, that was my bluetooth post, what about it? I was commenting to someone who said something about having to know the pin of a headset. 0000 is the pin of almost every headset out there. Any one who works in the computer security field knows that. That's why exploits like carwhisperer works.

As to the question of breaking into a WEP protected wireless network being a felony:

http://www.dba-oracle.com/oracle_new...ess_felony.htm

In most jurisdictions unauthorized access to a computer network is a crime, and in many it's a felony. As a self-stated security expert one would expect you would know that. Unless one has explicit permission to test the security of a given network, breaking into that network is a crime anywhere in the US, UK, and many other places.

i agree with barry, his purpose for using aircrack may not be to screw people over and get internet connection for free, but rather to test the security of his network, or a network that he has been charged to test, as he says. Now there is always the chance that this isn't the case, but he's innocent until proven guilty.

Sorry to be "that guy", but can we go ahead and get this post back on topic. The question wasn't "Is it legal", or "Can you guess why I'm doing this", or "Wanna argue about who needs to grow up", it was essentially "How can I can aircrack to work".

Could we stop the assuming, the arguing, and the throwing around of apparent qualifications and details, and discuss the actual problem?

By the way, I understand now why people don't want to search forums, because every time they do find a thread relating to their rare problem, its filled with useless detours, like what we can see here.

Well it comes down to he need gainroot installed. Until then aircrack isn't going to work. For the most part aircrack is pretty useless on the Nokia any way. It's more of a see if we can kind of thing. If the OP is really just trying to pentest networks he actually has permission to, then he ought to be using a real computer that's properly set up and not a handheld that for the most part really doesn't have the horsepower to properly use the tools at hand.

Agreed, capturing data is a painstaking, and lengthy activity. To crack a 48 bit WEP password (again, a home network i was just using to test the program), it took me over 2 days using my n800, to collect enough packets+crack it.

If your planning to successfully sit in your car, the mall, or outside someones house in hopes of cracking their wep security, and access their wifi, then your gonna be greatly disappointed.
