i agree with barry, his purpose for using aircrack may not be to screw people over and get internet connection for free, but rather to test the security of his network, or a network that he has been charged to test, as he says. Now there is always the chance that this isn't the case, but he's innocent until proven guilty.

I also agree, with aplomb. I would use it for getting access to a WEP encrypted network that I might be tasked to administer by affiliates that need assitance. Or how about the new customer you just got because the last admin only used WEP or nothing at all, not WPA with a lengthy, cryptic key to begin with? I've got two former "Geek Squad for Business" customers that way, using freely-distributed and documented tools
I bet the detractors of this concept of openness and doomsayers also use these tools in their arsenal, too. If they don't, they are missing out.
