i agree with barry, his purpose for using aircrack may not be to screw people over and get internet connection for free, but rather to test the security of his network, or a network that he has been charged to test, as he says. Now there is always the chance that this isn't the case, but he's innocent until proven guilty.
I bet the detractors of this concept of openness and doomsayers also use these tools in their arsenal, too. If they don't, they are missing out.

I know it's stealing, I just want to know how many people are giving the guy a hard time about aircrack, yet go and download free music. Personally I think most of us are guilty of doing this from time to time. Napster didn't switch to "pay" service for nothing.

Sure it's against the law (or civil law at least) but then again the law has been known to make bad laws. Such as the no buying alcohol before 12 PM on Sundays (hello? What happened to seperatation of Church and State?). Or getting into the road, when a girl is walking on the sidewalk. In the end it boils down to whether a person believes he/she is stealing music or not.
So it really depends on how you believe information should be shared. You can watch Steal This Film part II for a documentary on the sharing of information if you'd like (hey, something else to watch on a tablet). People trying to lock down information isn't anything new. They use to do the same thing with books until the printing press was developed. It's funny thinking that books used to be chained up and protected by guys with armor and swords.

There are legitimate reasons to use aircrack though. I use it at work, and have used it at client's homes and businesses. Hell, I've custom built computers that's just for pentesting. There is absolutely no reason to pirate mp3's. If you really want the song that bad and don't want to pay for it, do like we used to do in the days before the internet, record it off the radio! At the moment that's still legal. I'm all for free information, that's why they build libraries. They've got all the free info you could ever want, if they don't have it, they can order it. Leaching off someone's wifi network isn't about "free information". You're using a service that they have paid for, and you aren't. It doesn't matter if it's just to check email, or look up a phone number, you still haven't paid for it, and you are still stealing bandwidth from them.
