fanoush's shell script works like a charm on my N800 with OS 2008 together with my HTC smartphone.

But to make Nokia's applications aware of the internet connection, you need to set up a DUMMY connection.
Go to Connection Settings, add a new WiFi connection, and name it DUMMY. Then in the terminal do the following:

gconftool-2 -s -t string /system/osso/connectivity/IAP/DUMMY/type DUMMY

Now connect to the DUMMY connection and then run fanoush's script.

I have paired my linux desktop and the n800, but the n800 says

Searching for 00:11:22:33:44:55 ...
Error org.bluez.network.Error.NotSupported: The service is not supported by the remote device
Setting up connection to 00:11:22:33:44:55 failed

where 1...5 is the mac address of the desktop machine. I have tried enablind and disabled authentication and encrytion on the desktop, with short and long PIN.

--edit--

BTW, my current attempt at a class is 0x960100, the nokia gets this using sdp-query...

# sdp-query 00:11:22:33:44:55
r|OPP|10|0|OBEX Object Push
l|0x1116|15|0|Network Access Point
r|0x1102|1|0|LAN Access Point

Yes, it's for Bluetooth networking. However, most of us use PAN to connect to their mobile phone. Some phones (mostly those running Windoze Mobile 5) don't support Bluetooth dialup which the Nokia tablets use for gaining internet access over the phone. Instead, the Windoze Mobile 5 phones support PAN. PAN is not directly supported by the Nokia tablets, so it's a bit difficult to set up.

And yes, you can also create private Bluetooth networks with PAN between your tablets and a computer.

Thanks, really worker script! I could connect my N800 os2008 and smart WM5 (PAN) Ginza MS100 (Lenovo Tetris). Only has changed: MAC (find by desktop comp with BT-adapter), IP (check via iPAQ 1940 and network utility vxUtil), DNS of my GSM-operator, PAN_ROLE=NAP.
I just copy the file with script to /home/user, change permission (under root - gainroot) 'chmod 777 btup' (my file), and just started ./btup.
Impotant: then copy from windows machine - change format of LF - 0D 0A to 0A.
