for whatever reason, i can connect to the wireless router me and my roommates have set up in our apartment, but then after a while (especially after intense internet browsing), my n810 will disconnect

when i try to reconnect, it says authentication failed...after trying the reconnect process about 15-20 times, i can finally get it to reconnect, only to disconnect once again after a brief period of browsing...repeat the process again

its getting really annoying and frustrating, i spend 5 or so minutes being able to browse, and about 20 minutes in trying to reconnect

any ideas??????????????????

thanks....

I have no obvious solutions, but I've had random "authentication failed" issues on my N800/OS2008 so you're not completely alone...

Not being a WIFI expert I've ended up rebooting both the router and the Nokia, reentering my shared password and toggling offline mode with no active internet apps and eventually something clicks and establishing a connection works again.

My uneducated guess would be that it is some kind of an interplay issue with the router, its firmware and the Nokia tablet, otherwise these problems would be a lot more common. I've Buffalo WHR-G45S with the latest Tomato (based on an older Buffalo firmware) installed. Unauthenticated access via another router works every time.

It could also have something to do with OS2008 since we have that in common. If this problem persists and there aren't any replies here, maybe it would be worth trying the OS2008 or Troubleshooting forums?

I have trouble connecting to most unprotected open wifi networks I come upon... and some are public wifi offered by city council or cafe's etc. sometimes it says "cannot get IP address" but most of the time just failure to connect.

could there be any reason for this? certain types of networks it can't connect to?

Jaywink, something about those open AP issues is discussed here:

(How Should WiFi Work on Random Hotspots?)

It's a different problem from having occasional "authentication failed" errors with one's own Access Point, but who knows if noise pollution or other wifi compatibility gremlins might contribute to both.

similar but different problem for me. at home i can browse 'shared' media files over upnp from my desktop. after going downtown this afternoon connecting to a couple public hot spots, i return home, connect to my network and can no longer access those media files.
yes the desktop is still ON
