I have a number of apps that just don't seem to work for me. They all have the same symptoms, that of loading and then just exiting to the desktop screen. I'm sure there is a common element here, I just aint got a clue how to solve it.

The following apps exhibit the symptoms above:

UKMP
UKTUBE
SDict Viewer
lybniz
WifiInfo

I have reinstalled phython 2.5-runtime and all the above apps, but I still have the same problems.

Please could someone give me a clue as to what I can try to fix this.

Many thanks

Rob

I'm in the same position too, but not with the same apps. I don't even think I have python. I'm using the out of the box N800, with os08, and some times the email won't launch (goes back to home page like you describe), or other random acts of failed starts. I hoping we can get some advice on debugging this type of issue. I even try power off, and restarts. Another example- my email won't load, unless theres a new email in the inbox.? Otherwise it loops back to home screen. Hmmm.
And- Even though it appears configured correctly for Imap, and recieved mail.. it wont send any out..(but thats another thread, I know) I only bring that up to see if we can get some ideas on tracking down these issues.
Thanks everybody.

I can only say for sure that SDict Viewer has a brand new version that fixes a bug where I would act like it was opening and then not do anything. So grab the new version if you don't alread have it (v0.6 - I think).

Otherwise, the only thing I can suggest is to try to run the apps from command line and see what it spits out - that should give you some clue as to what's going on. Now the challenge is figuring out what the command is for each application - for SDict Viewer the command is 'sdictviewer' so that one is easy enough.

thanks for the reply.

this is what I get when i try to run UKMP from xterm:

~ $ ukmp
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/ukmp", line 22, in ?
import MediaCenter
File "/usr/bin/MediaCenter.py", line 23, in ?
import pygame, os
ImportError: No module named pygame

next one is for sdictviewer:

~ $ sdictviewer
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/usr/bin/sdictviewer", line 24, in ?
from sdictviewer import ui
File "/usr/lib/sdictviewer/__init__.py", line 2, in ?
from sdictviewer.formats import *
File "/usr/lib/sdictviewer/formats/dct/__init__.py", line 3
from . import sdict
^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

hope this is whats needed for trouble-shooting

both of those appear to problems with your Python. If it were me... I would uninstall the apps then I would delete the repositories from the catalog then I would grab fresh new repo for Maemo Extras (NOT the temporary Chinook fix). Then install Python run-time and then try to install the apps including the brand new SDict v0.60 because it fixes a problem with python too.

I'm experiencing the same problem after an apt-get upgrade fail in red pill mode.

While in red pill mode, go into your Application manager's Installed applications and remove all broken packages and packages dependant on Python before removing it and reinstalling everything. This is not fun.

But it fixed my problem.

I had to re-flash in the end.
