I am sure it is my lack of knowledge, I use this for work and one of the biggest things that I do is to check the status of the network which I currently do with a laptop through internet explorer. I can type in the numbers of the device
(example 10.5.5.230) it can be a network camera, a thermostat, or a alarm panel and I go directly to the unit without going to the internet. When I try to do this with the
N800 I end up online at a google search page. I would also like to know if it would be possible to access my desktop that is on the network and operate it remotely like I can with a laptop. The desktop operates the security cameras and having the ability to access them from the N800 would be ideal. Also am unable to figure out how to clear my brouser histery. Am sure I will have many more questions, I am learning as I go and have been trying ro learn as much as possible by reading as many different foruns (this is the best I have found) as I can. One other thing, I need to order screen protecters, is it worth paying the 12 bucks each for the brand name ones or get the packs from ebay where I can get 10 or 15 for 15 bucks and cut them to fit. Thanks in advance for you help, Steve

Are you sure you typed that in the browser location bar, and not the google applet on the desktop?

You can do that by using rdesktop (windows) or vncviewer (linux).
Please search the forum on them.

Also am unable to figure out how to clear my brouser histery. Am sure I will have many more questions,
- close all browser windows
- start xterm
- type rm .mozilla/microb/history.txt

is it worth paying the 12 bucks each for the brand name ones or get the packs from ebay where I can get 10 or 15 for 15 bucks and cut them to fit.
Yes. You will thank yourself, as long as you know how to apply them. There have been quite a number of screenprotector discussions here. Boxwave and Brando seem to be the most popular here.

Maybe I can address part of your confusion. Unless you've changed the home page, the default home page is NOT on the internet, even though it appears to be. The home page is a local html page that is stored on your tablet. It of course looks just like the google page, but it's not on the internet, it's just on your local tablet. You should just be able to type in the url you want in your address bar and go from there.

You should be able to access your desktop via rdesktop.

Thanks guys, I figured out how to get to the units in my intranet, but am not sure how to start xterm? I was also thinking about trying to install firefox but not sure how or if I should. I have used google on my desktop but am unable to view some of the TV shows that I do on the laptop from ABC and FOX. Am not sure that this device is able to do this, would be great if it could but not a big deal if not. I work the night shift at a student housing complex as a night watchman and 90% of the job is just being their and staying awake. Most nights by 1 or 2 am it is dead and with the security cameras running all I have to do is be there. Have to make sure that the network is up and running not only for the students that we provide internet access for, but our security system as well. This
N800 is going to be so much easier than lugging the brick of a laptop around that I have! I just need to learn how to get the most out of it. Thanks again, Steve

Get an EEE pc for long nights, they have a longer life battery than the N800 ( though they are bigger) and really reasonably priced (200gbp including postage). The N800 is capable of displaying a great number of flash sites but not all of them smoothly and some not at all.
I have both devices and don't really bother using my home pcs anymore. The EEE is a lot bigger than the N800 but is also rugged and still very portable: i would recommend it for your needs Crosseyed66.

Back to the N800, If you wish to try it there's a tabbed firefox variant being developed called 'minefield' which has a more options than Microb, however its flash/general site performance is no better in my opinion. It is also slow, frequently crashes and only works with the thumb keyboard. Be interesting when it's finished though!
