I was wondering about that aswell. Been trying to decide whether to ask about it so thanks for getting there first! It doesn't make sense that it goes dull when there's less light. I'm always getting it in shadow and then having to move around to point it into the light

Well pardon me if Im wrong, but isnt that what the ambient light sensor is supposed to do? If the screen goes dark in bright light you wont see it because of the reflection. So it compensates and brightens the screen. Plus you dont need full brightness in a darker room. Its a waste of battery.

I dont have an 810 but you are right, there should be an option to turn it off. Its probably hard coded in the software.

for me, it's that I often hold the N810 in such a way that my thumb ends up blocking the light sensor ... so, yeah, it'd be nice to be able to disable teh light sensor.

Or maybe I should just put some electrical tape over it, and turn the brightness up.
